Perspective Changes Everything!

I was running some errands on Sunday and brought my youngest son, Daniel along with me. He’s my sidekick most of the time. Daniel is one of these dudes who likes to talk. And by that I mean he never stops šŸ˜‰

I tend to stay in my head–because I’m a man of few words. So when I’m hanging with DanielĀ he’s talking a mile a minute and I’m doing my best to stay present and listen.

We pulled onto the highway and Daniel asked…”How long do you suppose those dashed lines are on the road?” He was talking about the white dashed lines that separate two lanes going in the same direction.

Older is BETTER

Are you concerned about getting old? I had a boss years ago who said getting older is not a big dealā€¦and it is much better than the alternative (dying young). I knowā€”he had lots of one-liners, but some, like this one, really imparted some wisdom.

As a younger person, I remember seeing people in their forties (and beyond) and for the most part, they looked like old people. Today, we take better care of ourselves and honestly, we look great!! We are still vibrant and we have gained wisdom which helps us to make better decisions. We are active and enjoying our lives. Many surveys show that as we get older we are also more content with our lives!

You Can Be A Victor

Life—it is not all a bed of roses!! Sometimes the thorns show up and create struggles in each of our lives. We all become victims from time to time of these ā€˜thornsā€™ā€”discouragement, fear, guilt, mistreatmentā€¦ā€¦Often we have no control over these ā€˜thornsā€™. What we can control is how we react and how we dwell on them.

Robert Silverstone has said: Ā ā€˜A universal law states that whatever we focus our attention on will tend to expand. If we are focused on finding the negative in a person or situation, especially in ourselves, those negatives will tend to expand and before long we find ourselves participating in victim consciousness, often without even being aware of it.ā€™

What Kind of Seeds Are You Planting?

I am not a great gardener but have been attempting to plant some seeds and plants and have a beautiful yard this year. I have researched and planted the seeds that grow well in the area of the US where I liveā€¦and I know not to plant seeds for sand spurs, weeds or poison ivy!! I certainly cannot plant sand spur seeds and expect to have lovely, blooming flowers.

What kinds of seeds are you planting in your life? How often do we think and speak negatively and then expect good things in our lives? Think and speak positive words. That sounds easy, doesn’t it? Take a day and be constantly vigilant of your thoughts, words and actions. It is so easy to fall into negative patterns that hold you back from your ultimate goals.

What Are The Most Important Things In Your Life?

I see many people aimlessly wandering through life with no thoughts of goals or plans to make any goals come true. You know people like that too, donā€™t you? The most they can hope for is to get through the weekā€¦or the day.

Make a list of goals in your life. You can put anything on your list that you really want. I have seen many peopleā€™s lists that had things like boats, big houses, fancy cars and diamond rings. There is absolutely nothing wrong in wishing for these material things, but search more deeply for what you really w ant in your lifeā€¦.the things money cannot buy.

All the ā€˜thingsā€™ that money can buy wonā€™t make you happy unless other situations in your life are ā€˜rightā€™.

Don’t Stand Still–Do Something!

Albert Einsteinsā€™ definition of INSANITY makes sense— doing the same thing over and overĀ again and expecting different results. Do you have dreams and goals for your life that you have not achieved or are not actively working towards? Are you doing the same things over and over thinking the results will change? How is that working for you?

Have you ever watched a baby crawling? I used to watch Kenna when she visited our office. She would see something she wanted–she loved balls- -and begin crawling toward it.Ā  Crawling is definitely slower than walking or runningā€¦and itā€™s hard on the knees. Sometimes she would sit back and take a break and then start toward that ball again. We could offer her other toys, but she knew what she wanted and no amount of distraction could deter her. No matter how long it took, she would get to the ball!

Know Yourself to Achieve Success

Do you want to be a successful in your personal life, in your work life and in your interactions with others?? Probably one of the most important things you can do is to know yourselfā€”your strengths and your weaknesses. Learn to appreciate your strengths and overcome your weaknesses. This will help you to be more successful in all areas of your life.

I knew nothing of Personality Tests until about fifteen years ago. When beginning a new job, I was asked to take this test and was told I am a Beaver. What in the world did that mean? Ā Ā As I studied the characteristics of the different personality types, I learned about Lions, Otters, Beavers and Golden Retrievers. Sounds silly, doesnā€™t it?

Are you a Lion? You are very fast paced and goal orientedā€¦.you are directā€¦you want to leadā€¦.you love challengesā€¦you are a problem solverā€¦.you like authority and are bold. You are a natural born leader!! You will boldly and courageously go into your business!

Lions, be careful because in the process of taking authority and leading, you might dominate a situation when you should allow others to contribute. Remember to be sympathetic to those around you. Consider others (your customers, co-workers) ā€“work with them at their level, which might not be the fast paced, take charge tendency of the Lion.

Are You Rich?

I read some words on a sign recently and had to go back and read them again. It is a simple statement:

ā€œIf you want to feel really rich,
think about all the good things in your life
that money cannot Ā buy!ā€

We all get discouraged, upset and overwhelmed with ā€˜lifeā€™! Through the years, I try to be ready with my PERSONAL AMMUNITION of positive words, thoughts, prayers. I have also been reminded many times of how blessed I really am in spite of the difficult circumstances.

You Are Special

If Only I Could Be Likeā€¦ā€¦

Each of us has our own unique skills, talents and strengths, yet I wonder how often we downplay our own abilities and wish we could be like____________(you fill in the blank). As confident as we might look on the outside, we feel inferior inside. Itā€™s so easy to recognize the strengths of those around us while we focus on our own (perceived) weaknesses.

I was once in a meeting led by several individuals. One person was rather aggressive in her approachā€¦another had years of experience in this fieldā€¦.another didnā€™t have much experience but was Ā full of energy and enthusiasmā€¦.one man was rather shy but completely sincere in his approach. What a wonderful combination! Because of the varied abilities and strengths, that meeting was a complete success and each person in the audience could certainly identify with some of the qualities represented that day.
