Confessions of a Serial Nighttime Eater

I confess—I am a serial nighttime eater! I am almost a model eater during the day—picking healthier foods, always staying low fat to protect my heart, including lots of fruits and veggies and I don’t eat in between my meals. Yeah, I learned all the tricks of dieting from many weeks of Weight Watcher meetings and reading articles on dieting and healthy eating.

Many years ago I began having sleep problems and would wake up multiple times nightly. I would get so miserable from not being able to sleep or from small aches and pains that I wound up getting something to eat (my comfort food 😊). Apparently I set up a pattern through years of doing this and now I wake up and just get a bite to eat. I have tried eating my favorite fruit, watermelon, at night. Weight Watchers says fruits are unlimited!! You can guess what all the watermelon causes!! I am awake extra times just to go to the bathroom.

Don’t Fall Prey To Phone Scams

Thank you AARP!! There are some advantages to getting older and the info I just received from AARP is something everyone should be aware of. Read more from AARP on Phone Scams!

The IRS scam

The voice on the other end of the line claims to be an IRS criminal investigator. Arrest is imminent if you don’t immediately pay thousands of dollars in back taxes. Individuals are instructed to put $500 on multiple iTunes gift cards and give up the 16-digit codes. Don’t be fooled. The IRS would never ask a taxpayer to buy iTunes cards for any reason.

Computer Caper

Internet scam artists create little boxes that pop up on your computer screen, telling you that you have a virus and need to call for technical support. Don’t believe it. Computer companies never notify customers of a problem through pop-ups, unless it is from virus-protection software that you installed.

What Is Your IT?

No matter what your faith or religious perspective is, just stick with me for a minute because answering this question could make a HUGE difference in your life.

I grew up in church– meaning, if the doors were open we were there. Even if they weren’t open we tended to be there because both my parents were involved in various groups and ministries of the church that always seemed to be having meetings, get-togethers, practices, etc.

My point is, “the church” was like my second home and the people were my second family. And I wouldn’t trade those years or that foundation for anything. It’s priceless.

At the same time I’ve always been the person to challenge — EVERYTHING….At home….In school…In church. I was always asking WHY or WHY NOT and if the answer didn’t make sense or feel right to me– then I didn’t accept it.

Why Am I So Stressed?

Tired all the time? Stressed to the MAX? When I look around, I see many people so stressed trying to live their normal lives, which can be SUPER demanding. I used to think I was tired all the time because I am no longer 29, but could it be something more than that?

What do you know about your adrenal glands?

Patriotism for EVERY DAY

NO, it is not Memorial Day or the 4th of July! Often we take for granted the country we live in and our freedoms, but many men and women have paid dearly for us to have the lives that we have–the freedoms that many people in the world do not have. We are a Blessed People!  Take a few minutes today and silently thank these patriots.  It’s not much to ask for the price they paid.

This was sent to me recently  and I would like to share it with you.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who
signed the Declaration of Independence?

Beautiful Hair Every Day

Wouldn’t you love to have beautiful hair every single day…like the day you leave the beauty salon and an expert has styled your hair? It might be easier than you think!! Here are a few tips:

Do not wash your hair daily. Wash 2-4 times weekly. Daily washing can strip your hair of the natural oils your hair creates to keep your hair hydrated. When washing, massage your scalp. This massaging relieves stress and promotes blood flow, which can help with hair growth and strengthening the roots of hair.

Wash your hair with lukewarm or cool water. Hot water strips the moisture from your hair and cooler water seals in the shine. Before conditioning, gently squeeze out excess water—this excess water will dilute your conditioner.

You Were Created For Success

I’ve got a little sign on my shelf and when I noticed it today, I thought of you.The sign says…

“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you think, and  smarter than you think.” (From Christopher Robin to Pooh)

If you have kids you know how important it is to constantly remind them that they are smart and talented and beautiful… and just basically all-around GREAT! It’s easy to be an encourager to little ones. To build them up and point out all the good stuff they do…and the more you do it, the more they thrive.

But somewhere along the line, as we get older, we stop hearing it. Now instead of walking into a room and being greeted by big smiles and words to build you up…people are quick to point out your flaws…your shortcomings and failures. And very quickly you find yourself feeling small…inadequate… more like a ZERO than a HERO.

Are There Good Fats?

For years we have been told that FAT is our enemy and to avoid it!! But did you know that there are healthy fats that are essential to our health? These are Omega-3 fatty acids. EPA and DHA -and are primarily found in certain fish. Our bodies need these essential fatty acids to function but they also provide some great health benefits.

So what are the health benefits?

*Supports cardiovascular health

*Lowers LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglyceride levels

*Increases HDL (good cholesterol)

*Supports normal blood pressure levels

*Supports Healthy Brain Function

*Boosts immune system

You can see from these positive benefits that most of us can benefit from Omega 3—and especially those of us with heart problems. I read in Web MD that we should have 2-3 servings weekly of anchovies, bluefish, herring, mackerel, salmon (the wild rather than farmed is richer in Omega 3s), sardines, sturgeon, lake trout or tuna.

Penny Wise Pound Foolish

We have all heard the old British saying—“penny wise pound foolish”. This means we might focus on saving pennies that in the long run cost us larger amounts of money. We all want to save money, but don’t forget the larger picture.

Okay, I admit it!! I have been penny wise and pound foolish. My mother was very economical. She had to be!! My dad did not have a high paying job and for years she couldn’t work because my little brother was sick and his medicines were very expensive. My mother knew more ways to cook a pound of hamburger that were delicious than you could ever imagine.

I guess I learned from my mom and I shop for good sales and most of the time, I get great deals and save a lot of money, but sometimes my desire to be thrifty outweighs my better judgement. For instance, I might not purchase a favorite fruit or vegetable because it is expensive….but will turn around and buy candy or cookies or cake!! Those items are not good for me and if you figure the price per ounce, the cost can be quite expensive. I would have been better off with my favorite—watermelon—even though it was pretty pricey!
