When God Created Mothers

Erma Bombeck was a popular writer about suburban family life. In her witty style, she has shared  “When God Created Mothers”

When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day of “overtime” when the angel appeared and said. “You’re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”

And God said, “Have you read the specs on this order?” She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts…all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And six pairs of hands.”

The angel shook her head slowly and said. “Six pairs of hands…. no way.”

It’s not the hands that are causing me problems,” God remarked, “it’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have.”

That’s on the standard model?” asked the angel. God nodded.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT A MOTHER?

As Mother’s Day approaches. I keep remembering my mom…things she did…things she said…and her love. If you are fortunate enough to still have your mother in your life, celebrate her. Let her know how much you love and appreciate her.

My mom made sure, as I was growing up, that I had everything I needed and most of the things I wanted. I took piano lessons as a young child all the way through high school. I had a piano and when I wanted to join the band, I got a flute and saxophone. Looking back, I realize mom and dad weren’t wealthy and they most likely did without things they wanted for themselves for me!!

Can I Ask You Something?

Can I ask you something?

Can I Ask You Something? And NO, it’s not what you’re thinking–I’m not going to ask if the glass is “half-full” or “half-empty” 😉

My question is…How heavy is this glass of water?

(insert the Jeapordy music)…lol

OK… do you have an answer?

We Stand UNITED!

We are all different. No husband and wife will agree on everything—no matter how much they love each other!! And that is okay!! There is a strength in our differences.

In our families, in our groups of friends, in the workplace and in our country, let us celebrate our differences AND come together to work for the common good of all.  Our U.S. history shows what can be accomplished when we are UNITED.  Will we ever agree on everything? No, but our common goal should be for UNITY—for each of us to be part of that goal….to be the best husband, wife, son or daughter…the best friend…the best work…and the best U.S. citizen! Together WE WILL STAND!

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Abraham Lincoln

My Dog Taught Me About Love

Gizmo came into our family over 12 years ago and was so tiny he fit in my husband’s hand. He quickly grew to be a larger Yorkie. We teasingly called him the Godzilla of Yorkies, but we would not have changed anything about him. After my parents became ill and unable to take care of him, my little brother (Gizmo) came to live with my husband and me.

In my lifetime, I have had many  dogs, but no one like Gizmo. He didn’t care too much for other dogs but LOVED their owners. If anyone even made eye contact with him, he ran to them with his tail wagging and quickly turned over to have his belly rubbed. There was only one thing he did not like and that was a cough or sneeze. Many times I have sneezed and gotten a dirty look as he walked to the bedroom to hide under the bed, but all was forgiven in a short time.

Let’s Honor Dr Martin Luther King’s DREAM

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday. Dr. King was one of those rare people who had a vision so big that it didn’t just serve him or his family or a city or a state or a country…It was a vision so powerful that it served (and transformed) humanity.

I’m sure you’re familiar with his famous, “I HAVE A DREAM” speech…(as I type the words I can hear his impassioned voice saying, “I HAVE A DREAM”…you probably can, too).

But what I find most inspiring about Dr. King isn’t written in the lines of that great speech. What I’m most inspired by is the commitment he made to live his life by returning hatred, evil, anger and the absolute worst outpouring of human behavior with…

LOVE and PEACE.
