Recently I was not even paying attention to my television, but the word ‘grateful’ caught my attention. Did you know that being grateful-(GRATITUDE)- can actually improve your health and help you to sleep better? I started doing a little research to be sure of what I had heard. It is said that prayers of gratitude—meditation and even passing thoughts can have a great impact on our lives.
Today I checked out an article on Forbes.com and found that:
*Gratitude improves your physical health. A 2012 study reports that people who are grateful have fewer aches and pains. This study also reported that grateful people take better care of their health (regular check-ups) and exercise more often—-all which contributes to better health.
*Gratitude can also improves psychological health by reducing the number of negative emotions and increasing happiness.
*Gratitude can also help you to sleep better. It was suggested that writing down a few thins you are grateful for just before going to bed could help you to sleep longer and better.
It is easy to be frustrated, angry and disappointed –and to dwell on those negative things. Let’s face it! We can all have difficulties in our lives!. BUT—go back to the Bible. In Philippians 4:8 (NIV) it states…..”whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things”.
Yes, even on the lousiest of days, we can find so much to be grateful for. Take a few minutes daily to think about all that you have!! Be thankful every morning when you open your eyes for the gift of another day! If expressing gratitude is not something you already do, set aside some time daily to be thankful.…and reap great health benefits.
