Do You Need Comfort?

COMFORT means ‘to improve the mood of or restore a sense of well-being to’. Do you always feel like you are reaching out to friends, family, even strangers to offer comfort? Well, there are times you need COMFORT too. I hope the things that bring comfort to me might inspire you to find those special things in your own life that will bring COMFORT and peace to you.

Comfort food – We all have our own favorites and times that we need comfort food! This has been an extremely cold winter for many people and you might be needing some comfort food about now. Comfort food could be described as food that provides consolation or a feeling of well-being and could be associated with childhood or home cooking.

Desserts—cakes, pies, cookies, ice cream—are my Number One comfort foods BUT I do my best to stay away from them since the sugar and high caloric content are not good for me—or my waistline!

I love homemade soups and stews—winter and summer!! Macaroni and Cheese, not the lowest calorie food, at least contains milk and cheese. Check out some of our favorite recipes by CLICKING HERE.

There are other things that bring me comfort and bring back great memories. Just remembering things my parents said…or the way my mom cooked…or dad’s humor… bring a smile to my face and lighten my spirit. When I cook fresh green beans, I bring them to a boil, drain in the colander and then proceed. I was asked recently why I do that first step. My reply was that I am not really sure, but that is what my mom always did!

A big part of my family moved away almost 10 years ago. On days I am really missing them, I wear my necklace that is engraved with ‘Mom’. If it is winter, I wear my old Daytona sweatshirt and remember some of the wonderful weekends we had together. That sweatshirt is over 12 years old and I am hoping it lasts many more years.

Sometimes I can become so burdened down with the stresses of problems that macaroni and cheese, pleasant memories of my parents or my favorite sweatshirt just don’t bring comfort or peace to my soul. Then I can turn to the One who is always there and loves me most. In Peter 5:7 we find one of the most comforting scriptures in the Bible.

When you are burdened with the cares of your life, humble yourself before God and cast your burdens before him. He is always there and loves you supremely.
