How Do You Celebrate Labor Day?

Labor Day is a holiday celebrated in the U.S. the first Monday in September. It is a day off for most workers and often celebrated with picnics, athletic events and parades. But what is Labor Day—why was it established? I never think too much about it other than it means a nice long weekend off work!

Labor Day is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers and is a tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. It was first celebrated in 1882 and became a federal holiday in 1894. It also marks the unofficial end of summer for many people in the U.S..

In the 1800’s many workers put in 12 hours days 7 days a week. In some states children as young as 6 worked in mills and factories. Many workers faced unsafe working conditions and in some jobs had no access to fresh air, sanitary bathrooms or breaks during their long days. Many years ago, Labor Day was established as the working man’s holiday.

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend and also celebrate our much improved working conditions.

Patriotism for EVERY DAY

NO, it is not Memorial Day or the 4th of July! Often we take for granted the country we live in and our freedoms, but many men and women have paid dearly for us to have the lives that we have–the freedoms that many people in the world do not have. We are a Blessed People!  Take a few minutes today and silently thank these patriots.  It’s not much to ask for the price they paid.

This was sent to me recently  and I would like to share it with you.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who
signed the Declaration of Independence?

Count Your Blessings!

We celebrate American Independence Day on the Fourth of July every year. We think of July 4, 1776, as a day that represents the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation.   On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson.

From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, but did not become a federal holiday until 1941. Today we celebrate July 4th with many festivities ranging from parades to fireworks, cookouts and family gatherings.

Celebrate our Heroes!

How do you celebrate Memorial Day? Is it just another day off work or do you understand its significance in our lives?

Memorial Day, which takes place on the last Monday of May, is a day set aside in the U.S. to honor and remember the people who died while serving in the our armed services. We should actually be thankful and remember their sacrifices every day of the year. We are blessed with a rich heritage of freedom and the men and women who have defended that freedom.
