Don’t Let Stress Rule Your Life!

Trying to keep up with the daily demands of LIFE (job, finances, home, family, etc) can be overwhelming!! No matter how hard we try to stay calm, things come up that cause stress in our lives. One main stressor for me in the past two years has been my car!! It is customized (at great expense) for my husband’s power chair so we cannot just trade it in. We have had some major bills and every time the light comes on signaling a problem, I can feel the stress mounting in my body. I have done nothing to cause the car problem and I cannot fix it myself so I should be able to just take it to the mechanic and not be concerned….but I have not figured out how to do that!

How about you? What is stressing you? Do you ever experience anxiety–panic attacks–feel worried–feel your heart race? You are not alone!! Nearly 1 in 5 adults suffer from anxiety.

Count Your Blessings

We have just been through a stressful week of watching a massive hurricane tear through the islands and head straight to Florida. We prepared all we could, but how do you ever really prepare? It Irma had hit our area of Florida at a Category 4 or 5, it would have been devastating. Category 2 was more than enough. I prayed and tried not to panic as we waited and the winds were battering my home.

What did I learn from Hurricane Irma?

I learned the value of family texting me almost hourly to be sure we were okay. Of family researching and telling me where there were still gas stations with any gas (I didn’t even mind waiting in line 30-45 minutes to get gas). My family reached out with love and support from 900 miles away and I felt that love. It gave me strength and encouragement.

Having A Bad Day?

I received this email from a friend yesterday—right at a time when life has not been easy. My husband has spent 13 days in the hospital—is home but still far from being well. As each new, discouraging report has come in, I have had to fight defeat…and tears!! I think God knew I needed to be encouraged and reminded to be thankful for my blessings. I hope this message will also bless you.

A famous writer was in his study. He picked up his pen and began writing: “Last year, my gallbladder was removed. I was stuck in bed due to this surgery for a long time.

The same year I reached the age of 60 and had to give up my favorite job. I had spent 30 years of my life with this publishing company.

The same year I experienced the death of my father.

In the same year my son failed in his medical exam because he had a car accident. He had to stay in the hospital with a cast on his leg for several days. And, the destruction of the car was a second loss.”

His concluding statement: “Alas! It was such a bad year!!”

When the writer’s wife entered the room, she found her husband looking dejected, sad and lost in his thoughts.

She carefully and surreptitiously read what he had written, silently left the room and came back shortly with another piece of paper on which she had written her summary of the year’s events placing it beside her husband’s paper.

When her husband saw that she had written something in response to his account of the year’s events, he read:

Last year I finally got rid of my gallbladder which had given me many years of pain.

I turned 60 with sound health and retired from my job. Now I can utilize my time to write better and with more focus and peace.

The same year my father, at the age of 95 without depending on anyone and without any critical conditions, met his Creator.

The same year, God blessed my son with life. My car was destroyed, but my son was alive and without permanent disability.

At the end she wrote: “This year was an immense blessing and it passed well!!

The same incidents but different viewpoints . . . .

MORAL: In our daily lives we must see that it’s not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy. There is always, always, always something to be thankful for.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING … And attitude is the one thing that we always, in every circumstance, have control over.

May we continue to see life’s blessings as we move forward on our life’s journey …even on difficult days

Why Am I So Stressed?

Tired all the time? Stressed to the MAX? When I look around, I see many people so stressed trying to live their normal lives, which can be SUPER demanding. I used to think I was tired all the time because I am no longer 29, but could it be something more than that?

What do you know about your adrenal glands?

Are You Searching For Your Rainbow?

Sometimes it is easy to see the rainbow…the good in every situation. Other times, it is hard to see past the storm clouds, wind and rain. It does take effort and determination to realize that these less than wonderful situations will pass–that there is a rainbow just waiting for us.

I have a friend who (as a joke) used to sing the song from the old television show Hee-Haw. Do you remember it?

Gloom, despair and agony on me

Deep dark depression, excessive misery

If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all

Gloom, despair and agony on me

What You Think About You Bring About

You must guard your mind from negative thoughts and emotions. You are in control of your thoughts. You can put a stop to a negative thought the moment it enters your mind. Is this easy? No, but it is absolutely critical to your ultimate success.

One effective tool for you to use is to REPLACE worry with a positive vision. Worry brings fear, nervousness and frustration. It distracts us and keeps us from operating at our optimum level.

Worry stems from FEAR. And in 90% of all cases, FEAR is negative. Yes, there are times when fear can be healthy–like choosing not to walk too close to the edge of a cliff. But for the most part, FEAR is nothing more than FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL (F.E.A.R).

The problem with allowing your mind to obsess and worry over something you fear is that by doing so you can actually manifest the very thing you fear into your reality. Remember, our subconscious mind works hard to bring about the thoughts we focus on the most.

So here’s the plan: when you start to worry over something, instead of doing what most people do and imagining the worst possible scenario as being inevitable, begin to imagine that BEST possible outcome you can think of. Instead of obsessing over “what could or might” happen that is bad, begin to vividly imagine that what WILL happen is a good and positive outcome. If you’ll do this, I guarantee that you’ll begin to see GOOD things happen and you’ll eliminate the bad.

I REFUSE to be DEFEATED!

IT’S JUST NOT FAIR! If you have children, you hear this phrase often. To tell you the truth, that’s how I feel about some situations also. Things happen to all of us that are challenging – sickness, loss of a job, family problems, divorce, unfair treatment at work…

We all face problems of one kind or another and often “it’s just not fair“!!

The next step is up to you! Are you going to dwell on the negative and the “poor me” syndrome? Are you going to waste your time and energy in thoughts and words that just keep you upset and don’t solve the problem? I was faced with a problem recently that upset me. I thought about the problem, lost sleep that night and woke up with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. My mind was active all the next morning replaying the same words over and over. I finally had to stop myself because I was not making the situation any better and only further destroying my peace of mind.
